A simple, precise & rapid Reverse Phase HPLC- UV method has been developed for the simultaneous determination & quantitation of non phenolic alkaloid emetine and phenolic alkaloid Cephaeline in IPECAC roots and its preparations, Ipecac Liquid extract 2% and 0.2% tincture.  Our specially developed method ensures better detection of both the major alkaloids in the IPECAC roots & its preparations compared to the titrimetric procedure depicted in British Pharmacopoeia.
